Banner Progress

Banner, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

I managed to get a few hours in on another two banners. I got the flowers done on two banners and the figures done in one more. This is the banner hanging in the doorway. This one is a bit shorter than the others.

Cushion Pieces

Cushion Pieces, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

This is the three parts of the cushion ready for blocking and pressing. I had a little problem with the buttonhole but it worked out pretty well.

Cushion - Blocked Ready For Pressing

This is the front panel of the cushion, from the back. It's been blocked with pins ready to be pressed. Luckily, I have plenty of wool blankets to make a pressing pad.

Knitting - Blocked and Pressed

This is the front panel after it's been pressed. The colour is a bit dodgy as it was dark and I had to use a flash. I forgot to get a cushion pad when I was at Spotlight yesterday.

1943 Maribyrnong Munition Factory Fire Brigade

This is a photo of my Nan, Margaret May Watson (nee Whitley) when she was on the Grenade Section Fire Brigadge Championship Team of 1943. She worked at the Maribyrnong Munition Factory during the war. She is second from the right, second row.

Margaret May Whitley

This is a photo of my grandmother, Margaret May Whitley. She is the little girl on the window sill with the dog. This was taken in about 1928/1929 in London, just before she moved to Australia with her family.

The formidable lady in the photo is her Aunt Rose, her fathers brothers wife. Her father was John Whitley. I'm not sure which of his brothers was this ladies husband. The possibilies are Robert Whitley and Walter Whitley.

Rib Edge Completed

P1020694, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

I looked in one of the old knitting booklets I got from the op shop and that explained how to do the picking up stitches along the edge. I don't know if I did it correctly but it seemed to work. One more back to do, hopefully I will get that done this weekend. That has a new challenge, casting off in the middle to make a buttonhole!

Back Panel - Without Rib

Back Panel - Without Rib, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

I did the first of the back panels for the cushion last night. Now I have to pick up stitches on the side and do a rib. Does anyone know of a website that shows you how to pick up stitches on the side? I get the concept but I'm not sure which part of the stitch to pick up.

I've finished the front of the cushion. Just need to block it. Now I have to do the backs.

I did two more sets of pattern last night. I think I've only got 3 more to go.

Quilt and Cat Model

Quilt and Cat Model, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

Close up of the vines. The pattern called for a solid green for the vines but I decided to go with patterned fabric, partly because I had a roll of green bias that I'd made about 8 years ago which I wanted to finally use!!

Banners

One of the people helping with the banners came over last night and picked three of them up. The plan is that I do the big blocks of colour and some of the detail work (like the big trees and leaves etc) and she will do the bits that require some sort of artistic talent, ie details and texturing such as folds on fabric, faces etc. We should have at least three banners done for Tocal.
