Sci Fi Geek Girl

Sci Fi Patches, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

Boy, was my sci fi geek girl quotient pretty high today. I also got these patches from the USA as well. I've been after the blue one for years, it goes with another one that I bought at a con years ago. Now I have the set! ;-) And of course I had to get a BSG one.

BSG Soundtracks

BSG Soundtracks, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

I ordered these a couple of weeks ago and they finally arrived yesterday. Boy, are they good. I have to say, I'm liking S3 better than S2, but they are both great. I'm normally not a big fan of instrumental, but these songs really work, I think because it's a style I really enjoy, strong drums and bass, floaty vocals, peaks and troughs. Really very good.

Vet Just Called (Swearing Free Post)

The vet just called back. He must've picked up on my less than happy demeanor and done some checking. They have sent the samples and are expecting results tomorrow. I am still not happy, but as everyday counts tomorrow is better than Saturday. Now I just hope it's something we can fix.

I am So Mad (Swearing Involved in Post)

I just called the vet to see if Pharaohs results were in and to see if they'd come up with a treatment plan (if whatever is wrong with him is treatable). They haven't sent the fucking tissue samples off yet! Even if they send them today it might be Saturday before results. I don't know that Pharaoh has that long. The op was Monday, it's now Thursday morning. Then I got what can only be described as a piss poor attitude from the vet I spoke to. I don't like this guy, he's the one that won't even touch Pharaoh to examine him. So I don't go to him. So I said I was a bit upset that nothing had been done yet, as Pharaoh wasn't in great condition and days delay could see him not make it, and then the vet said, "Well, if he's that bad maybe it's not worth wasting the money doing the tests". Well it would've been fucking nice to know that before I spent the $800 dollars on the operation. Maybe it's not worth me paying the fucking bill using that logic. I am not happy. I will let the regular vet know I am not happy. And if I find out that something could've been done for Pharaoh but the delay then meant there was no solution, I am going to be very, very mad. Well, madder than I am now and that's pretty fucking ropable.

Pharaoh Home

I picked Pharaoh up just before lunch. He was pretty happy to see me. I was going to help get him from his cage into his carry box but I didn't need to. When I told them that if they just hold the box up to the cage he would probably just walk in, they seemed a bit sceptical. But they tried it and he did!

So I dropped him home, he was able to walk (if some what wobbly). As soon as the door was open on his carrier he me a bee line for the back of the house. I thought for the litter tray but was for his food! So his appetite is fine, and I gave him treats. So with a bit of luck we will have some path results back tomorrow, find out what is wrong and start drugs and hopefully fatten him up a bit!!

Pharaoh Update

They didn't find any cancer during the exploratory operation. So they've taken samples of various bits to send off to see if they can work out the problem. Theory is some sort of enzyme imbalance. Hopefully something that can be fixed. He took a fair while to come out of the aneathetic but that's not surprising, he was pretty weak to start with. And it was probably better he sleep through the night at the vet anyway, as if he was awake he'd just be stressed out. When I rang this morning, he was fiesty, which means they can't do anything with him, so I will take him home to recuperate. Hopefully, I can get something to give him for the pain. Poor little spud.

And thanks to everyone who has sent their thoughts and best wishes. It is much appreciated.

Pharaoh Is Sick Again

I've been up since 1am with Pharaoh. He was off a bit yesterday and then last night he got worse. He hasn't been putting weight on, in fact he's getting skinnier by the day even though he is eating almost non-stop. It's like he is starving, he is always hungry.

So I took him to the vets as soon as they opened this morning - two options - exploratory surgery or put him to sleep. I've already spent a fortune, so what is a bit more? The vet said I could pay in installments. Anyway, they are just waiting for all the food he ate during the night to settle. Then we see. If it's cancer, they may be able to operate. Or it could be an enzyme problem, which might be controllable with drugs. I just want the little bugger to get better.

Blackwork Collar - 2 hrs Work

I am making a collar and cuff set to sell at Festival. I like this pattern, it works up very quickly. I think I might make some more in other colours. I am going to do a slightly more complicated design as well.

Blackwork Caul

Blackwork Caul, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

This is the status of my blackwork caul. I've been dragging this around as my doodle piece which I take to events so I have something to work on. I've been working on it for about 3 years!! I've decided I am going to make it up and sell it at Festival. I think it needs something inside of the diamonds. But I can't decide what - I am thinking either a small gold paillette or maybe a small (but quick to sew) motif. Any ideas?

Centre Medallion Transferred

P1020610, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

I finally got round to transfering the centre medallion for my Elizabethan Bedhanging to the canvas. This is based directly on an existing piece in the Victoria and Albert Museum. The only thing I've changed is the heraldry in the middle (obviously, I've put mine in there!).

So the to do list for that project is to put the final round of couching on the blue flowers and start on the medallion. I also have to find patterns for the various insects etc that I want to scatter over the hanging.

There Is Always A Hitch

I went to add the top and bottom border last night. I'd cut (or really ripped) the border pieces out on the weekend so all I had to do was pin and sew during the week. (My brain usually isn't up to much more than that!). I got the top done and was pinning the bottom on when I realized that the border piece was about an inch too short. Damn that is annoying. However, all is not lost as I have plenty of the fabric left and just need to tear a new section.

There is one small problem - my ironing board is falling apart. The various welds that hold it together have starting breaking. Each time I put it up a new bit breaks. So I am going to have to buy a new one.

So, with a bit of luck, I will be able to bring it to work and mark it out on the board room table and start the applique on the weekend.

Quilt Sides Added

No images for this one, but I've added the white border to two sides of the quilt. I decided that my somewhat lacking machine piecing skills were up to adding the border by machine since I only had to match seems on one side! And I really couldn't face hand stitching that long a seem by hand. So once that top and bottom are done, I can get to marking out the applique.

1930s - Centre Section Complete

Centre Section Complete, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

This is the centre patchwork section of the quilt complete. I had intended to enlarge this section, but adding even two more columns seemed to be taking forever and then I thought about the extra quilting time!! So I've gone back to the original size.

Tablet Weaving

No sewing last night as one of the people in the Barony wanted to come over and learn how to tablet weave. She doesn't have transport so she came home with me from work and then I drove her back home once we were done. I remember how much it sucked not to have transport and be very limited in what you could do.

I only taught her the basics, as that is all I know, but it's enough to get some projects underway.
