The Post

So I got a call at about 10am yesterday from one of the other local papers, this ones a free one, but quite popular, called the Post. They wanted to know if they could drop by for photos. Luckily, I'd brought the stuff to work with me again. St at 11am there was another photo shoot. Only problem is we get the other free paper and not this one, I will have to hit people at work up to bring in copies for me!

Media Update

So the NMH reporter and photographer came and took my photo yesterday. They made me do the stare into the distance thing. I hope I don't look too naff! The reporter wasn't sure when the article would be published, I think probably Saturday. I will check the papers. Looks like the Post also might want a photo. The ABC didn't call, I think they found something more interesting. Ah well, I was a bit freaked by the radio thing anyway. I'm much more a print person.

Moonglow Block

Moonglow Block, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

I forgot to take a photo of the wedge with the outside corner put on, as I was more focused on getting the block completed! I just have to put the outside border on the block and it will be done. This is the last of the compass wheels for the quilt. Now I just have to do the alternate blocks. I'm so out of practice using black fabric. The white fabric is so much easier on the eyes!!

It was a bit mishappen due to the number of small pieces, which were all cut on the bias. These were then sewn into the corner sections which don't have any horizontal stretch at all. But lots of steam and muscle got most of it under control. Once it's sewn to the other pieces and quilted, it won't be a problem.

It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time

So, there was this little button on the Ancestry.com.au website promoting this thing called the Backyard History Hunt. The idea was to get people to look into their family documents or memorabilia and to submit things that they thought might be of interest to family and local historians.

So I submitted a couple of photos, including one of a set of song lyrics written about serving in Bouganville during the later stages of WWII. I presume that the item belonged to my grandfather, but I don't know if he wrote it.

Anyway, the PR person in charge liked it and did a phone interview with me to come up with some text for a case study for a media release file. No harm, no foul.

I just got back from a meeting and there was a phone message. The lady in charge had sent the release out and within literally minutes, had been contacted by two of the biggest media outlets where I live who both want to talk to me! She was really surprised, she said they usually don't get much of a reaction and to get one so fast was really unusual.

So the Newcastle Morning Herald wants an interview and picture and ABC Radio wants to do an on air chat tomorrow at 6.20am. What have I done? 'Suppose I better let me Dad know!!

Moonglow

One of the wedges that fits into the centre section of the block. I need to put black corner pieces onto this wedge to finish it and then it goes into the centre piece.

Moonglow - Centre

Moonglow - Centre, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

Centre piece for the Moonglow quilt. It was a bit cooler today but I was totally not motivated to do anything productive. So I got the centre piece done.

It was pretty warm today so I got the backyard tidied up a bit. I also managed to finish these wedges for the last block of my Moonglow quilt.

Google Chrome - Not!

I've spent all day trying to install Google Chrome. I got the installer down but every time I've run it, it just hangs. Well, it says it doing stuff, but when I'm sitting on a node, it really shouldn't spend an hour saying that its "connecting to the internet". Not a brilliant start. I can understand if it was getting hammered this morning, but it's 1am in the USA now, I should be able to download it OK. The other thing is if I cancel the install and try to run it again later, it says that it's already running in the background. I really hate this new system of download the installer and then download the rest while you are online. It assumes that everyone can be online all the time. I think I will be sticking with Firefox, which lets me download the whole thing in one go.

Busy Weekend

The weather was beautiful on Saturday. So nice and warm. I got alot of housework and various other projects out of the way. Sunday was back to rain and cold. Finished adding the last of the applique elements and measured up and cut the borders. I had miscalculated on the half square triangles for the final outside border so bit more sewing there. I should have those done during the week. I will baste the quilt next weekend.

I also spent alot of time working on my Family history site. Got most of the Watson family done, all least the basics anyway. I was sick of the site being empty.
