Possum

I was standing at the counter of Rafters (small campus coffee shop) this morning getting some breakfast. I turned around and got a shock, there was a possum up in the rafters looking straight at me. I wasn't scared, more surprised to see his little face. For scale, he was about the size of your average cat. Possums are mostly harmlous, although you do run into the odd one with a bad attitude (especially if you try to take food off them or don't provide it quick enough when they demand it!). The Uni certainly lived up to its name of the Bushland Campus. Poor quality photo due to low lighting and no flash, cause I didn't want to freak out the little guy. He managed to score some apple.

Finished 13th C Pouch

I couldn't get hold of the tassels on the weekend, they'd sold out. But it's close enough to done to post a picture. Here it is. I was a bit worried about the colours, but now it's done, I really like them.

Good News on the Job Front

I had two job interviews this week, Monday and Tuesday. Both for the same job, just different Faculties. I've had one offer and waiting to find out about the second. So I will be starting a new job first thing in the new year, and it's at a higher pay level than now, so three cheers all around!!

Thinking About Designs

No sewing last night. It was way too hot, even with the air con on. So I started to get ready for the next big project. I am going to do an Elizabethan coif, polychrome silks and gold plaited braid stitch. I think I am going to go for the full set of Elizbethan emebroidered accessories, though the sweetbag seems to be dropping off the radar, I really don't do counted work well! But I will finish it. I have the design worked out, the big problem is getting the right linen. I have a lightish weight, I'm not sure it will be heavy enough. I got some heavier linen last weekend, but while heavier, its also a much coarser weave. So I might hold off and see if I can find something with a bit more body. I also need to sit down and work out how much silk I will need. I have the colours picked, I just might need to order some more as I don't want to run out half way through. I also need to order some more black. I am thinking of doing a companion coif if blackwork. And since it's more likely to be a display piece, I am thinking of making it in the better quality silk.

Ironing is Our Friend

Friday I got the second shield onto the pouch and did the yellow stitching around the edge. So it's basically done.

Even with wool, ironing can be our friend, below is a before and after of the pouch.

Eyelets and Finishing Pouch

The pouch is now lined. I finished the eyelets last night. They took a couple of hours. I really makes a difference when you use the right stitch. The hanging string took a little while, I did that while watching the Six Wives of Henry VIII, the David Starkey show. It was the last episode. So the pouch is basically done, I just have to dry and get some tassels from Spotlight tomorrow to put along the bottom.

Conference

Not working at desk today. Working registration desk at big conference we are running at work. No disasters yet, except for the fire alarm going off in the middle of lunch! But no fire, false alarm. No stitching last couple of days, too warm.
