Moonglow Progress - Centre Panel Done

I'm nearly near the end of all my UFO's, only a couple more to get quilted and I'm all caught up. I've been really sick with the flu for a week. Weak as a kitten, about the only thing I could do was sit on the couch and work my way through my IQ backlog (I didn't like S2 of True Detective as much as the first one). Only thing I could do was hand sewing. So I worked my way through my Moonglow rows. The rows were done, I just needed to sew them together. Which I have now done.

Blockbuster Thursday

So I am testing out a new thing on my blog today. I'm calling it Blockbuster Thursday, not terribly original, but hey, I'm a quilter, not a poet! The idea is for you to link to a picture of a block you have created (preferably one you've made this week, but I'm flexible on that!).

Below you will see text which says: "You are next..Click Here to Add A link". Click on the link, fill in the form, pick an image of your block, submit!! Below, a list of pictures and links to blocks will grow. A great way to let people know what you are working on and also see what others are doing.

Sea of Crisis from Jinny Beyer Moonglow Quilt

Moonglow Update

I've finished most of the alternate blocks but I'm one or two pieces short of fabric and no one seems to sell it anymore. I have been reduced to begging on my quilting email lists. Hopefully, something will come up. In the meantime, my finishing binge continues. I think the next project I will work on will be my everyday blackwork shirt. I've deconstructed the first shirts I made and modified them a bit - the sleeves were way too big and too complicated. I've cut them down and am putting some blackwork on them. It was going to be a take along project, but with Festival around the corner, I have no shirts to wear, so a concerted effort is required.

Moonglow Alternate Blocks A - Finished

Sorry that this one is a bit dark, but it gives an idea of what the finished blocks look like.

Moonglow Instructions

I started doing this quilt as a Block of the Month (BOM). With that I got the fabric and instructions. The quilt pattern is now 10 years old so the designer, Jinny Beyer has put the pattern up on her site for free. If fact, the instructions up there are way better than the ones I paid for as they include more detailed construction information and pictures of the fabrics. I would love to have had the fabric swatches in my instructions.

I like the dark green on this round best. Only one more round to go.

Alternate Block A - Round 3

Alternate Block A - Round 3, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

Didn't quite get these all done before going back to work, but got most of it done. Was a bit hot today but I managed to get this round done. Starting to transition the colours. I really love the purple vine fabric.

Got the second round on today. The colours are really nice.

Alternate Block A - Round 1

Alternate Block A - Round 1, originally uploaded by Jane Stockton.

And now for something that actually involves a needle and thread.

Starting on the rounds for the alternate block. I need to do five more of each (I've already made one as a model to follow). I am hoping to get these done by the time I have to go back to work.

Sea of Knowledge

Just finished the final of the compass blocks for the Moonglow quilt. Now all that is left is the alternate blocks. But it might be a while until I get to those.

Moonglow Block

I forgot to take a photo of the wedge with the outside corner put on, as I was more focused on getting the block completed! I just have to put the outside border on the block and it will be done. This is the last of the compass wheels for the quilt. Now I just have to do the alternate blocks. I'm so out of practice using black fabric. The white fabric is so much easier on the eyes!!
It was a bit mishappen due to the number of small pieces, which were all cut on the bias. These were then sewn into the corner sections which don't have any horizontal stretch at all. But lots of steam and muscle got most of it under control. Once it's sewn to the other pieces and quilted, it won't be a problem.

Sea of Knowledge - Section

It was pretty warm today so I got the backyard tidied up a bit. I also managed to finish these wedges for the last block of my Moonglow quilt.

Sea of Tranquility

This is Block 4.

Went shopping at Spotlight before going to weekly gathering. I wanted to pick up some knitting needles. I've got this great 1950's hat booklet I want to make a hat from. The pattern I like has a hole at the top, I thought it would make a nice headband. The only problem is that the yarn and needles are pattern specific so I had to get a range of needle to get the right size and gauge. Luckily, they were on special for $2 a pair. So I stocked up and got 6 pairs. But I forgot to buy the 12 ply yarn!!

Sea of Moisture

This is Block 2 of the BOM.

Did another corner of the leaves on the 1930's quilt. I should have all of them done by next weekend. That leaves only the birds and the flowers to applique. After that, just the half square triangle border and the top is done.

Sea of Nectar

I finished Block 10 today. But somehow I didn't get a photo of it when I took the shots of all the rest of the blocks! So it might be a couple of days before I post a shot of it.

I finished starching all the leaves for the 1930's quilt today. I started sewing them onto the top. Got one corner (1/4 of pattern) done.

Best Laid Plans

I planned on posting more images of my Moonglow blocks. But when I opened the folder I'd grabbed on the way out the door this morning, I realised that the completed blocks aren't in the folder! On the bright side, I also found that I needed to add the border to Block 10 and that Block 11 was still in pieces. So I will be working on those this weekend with the view to getting them finished asap. Filler blocks will be on hold.

Moonglow - Alternate Block Round 1

I have completed all the individual blocks for the Moonglow BOM quilt that I've been working on for the last few years. This is the only BOM I've ever done as I usually like to design my own quilts. But I love the colours in this one. This is the first "round" of the alternate block a.
I had the day off work yesterday and starched all the leaves, flowers and birds for my 1930's quilt. So with a bit of luck I can get them on the quilt ready for sewing on the weekend. I really want the top for this one done by winter. I'd love to have the quilt ready for summer but I don't think that will happen.

Good Service

I ordered the fabric I was missing from the Moonglow quilt on Monday afternoon and it's here by Wednesday lunchtime, that's pretty good service, so kudos to Logans Patchwork Fabrics.

Only two more to go of the compass blocks after this!

The Border Sea

Alternate Block, originally uploaded by laren_oz.

I made up a full demo of the alternate block as I had to work out all the measurements for myself. The instructions only had measurements for doing machine piecing. So I made up the templates, but not trusting my maths or working in Imperial measurements, I wanted to make up a full size block before cutting the rest of the material. So this is it, it worked out the right size, so now I can do the marking and cutting for the rest of the blocks.
